Life on the road with Mojo Radio

We recently had the pleasure of playing in Des Moines, Iowa. This was our first show in Iowa and we had a great response. We can't thank all the fans that came out enough. You made us feel welcome and we can't wait to get back there.

If you want to know what happens in the truck driving a 4.5 hour drive, then read on. I think some stuff will surprise you. First off, we need to pack all of our gear into a rental Suburban. This is what that looked like on the right. Basically there is never enough room for all of your stuff. Luckily, we got everything in and still had room for the actual band members. Who needs to see out the rear window anyway?

As we head out, we are pumped up for our first show in Iowa. To get us in the mood for rocking people's faces off, we started listening to some tunes. Here is some of what we played:  The Essential Daryl Hall & John Oates , Culture Club Greatest Hits

Didn't see that coming did you? We like to keep things diverse. You'll never know what will be in the road songs playlist. It will always be all of the place, however.

We also tried to catch up on some classic movies to pass the time. We loaded up the trusty Portable DVD player and put in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Special Edition). This is one movie you can get even if you are just listening to it. You will either love Monty Python or you'll hate it.

We made it the Gas Lamp in Des Moines in a shorter time than we had planned. That allowed us to sample the cuisine served right out of the back room. We highly recommend the food there. Bar food taken up to the next level for sure. It was even a little fancy.

We love the Gas Lamp, and all the staff there. Great bunch of people for sure. We also want to thank Stutterin' Jimmy for opening the night. He brought in a lot of fans for sure. He is such of a local legend it seems, and he has a great story for sure. Check out Stutterin' Jimmy on Reverb Nation here.

The ride home was a little exciting for sure. Some of us tried to sleep, and others were asleep before the truck left the parking spot. We did make a stop for gas and gas station food at one of the local Kum-N-Gos. These are all over Iowa, and we just had to stop in. After loaded up on Tornados, powdered donuts, and other unhealthy food choices, we hit the road back to Madison, WI. We ended up getting back around 6:30 AM. Then we had to unload the truck so it could be returned to the rental place. Nothing quite like driving for 5 hours, and then having to unload a full truck at 6:30AM on little to no sleep.

We are looking to do more of these in the future. We want to come to you wherever you are. Let us know if we haven't been to your town, and you think we'd do well there. Maybe we'll make it happen.
